Free
Domains Not Always a Good Move
When
hiring a web designer, you want to feel like you can
trust them with your site. However, some designers are
not to be trusted. One way to determine if they are
trust worthy is if they are willing to let go of control
of your domain name.
Some
services will provide you with a free domain name, however,
when they register the name, they register it in their
own name. When this happens, legally, the domain name
belongs to your web designer. If that designer feels
threatened about losing you as a client, he/she may
create problems for you by not relinquishing control
of the codes that are needed to transfer your domain.
The
best way to handle your domain is to make absolutely
sure that you are listed as the Owner of the domain.
This will prevent any future problems in claiming ownership
of your domain name. |

New
SEO Scam - Watch Out!
There
is a new SEO scam out there, one that seems honest and
forthcoming. A reported SEO company calls site owners that have
well-established rankings in the search engines. They
warn them that Google will be banning their Web site
and that they should switch over to his SEO company
so they can fix the issues prior to being banned. The
so-called SEO lists reasons why the site will be banned,
such as some bad links (that are out of the control
of most site owners) and then gives examples of other
sites that have been banned, such as BMW, BigMouthMedia
and Traffic Power.
The
thread at HighRankings Forum documents this very nicely.
After the Web site owner discovered this person was
up to no good, and declined the person's services, the
scammer sent the Web site owner back an email; "I make
sure to report you to Google for link farming. I'm sorry.
Your website will be banned and you will not be able
to be found on Google not even with your company name."
How professional? |
Keywords/Meta Tag Stuffing
It used to be when you made up your keywords and meta tags that you used every keyword imaginable just to get quantity
on your page. However, today this is one of the worst
things you can do, if you're looking for better rankings.
There are some people out there who pass themselves
off as SEO experts. If you ask them how they do it,
they will state that they put in extra text that is
not readable to the viewer's eye. In other words, they
color the text, the same color as what's on the page
or use CSS techiques. Search Engines are smarter than
that. They read everything on the page and if they discover
you are stuffing, your site will be banned. In your
meta tags, watch out that you don't use the same word
many, many times. This will also constitute stuffing. |
Not
All Monthly Fees are Scams
Monthly fees are not always scams. Legitimate reasons to pay
monthly fees to an SEO company would include situations
where you are regularly generating new content or new
features that require the oversight of an SEO expert,
managing PPC campaigns, or implementing a link build
campaign. Other search engine marketing services that
may require a monthly fee would be generating and distributing
press releases, article placement and promotion, evaluating
and tracking your inclusion in paid directories for
best ROI (return on investment) and
managing email campaigns.
